Experience the world's greatest play set in a gritty rock-driven production from the company critics call one of “the hidden treasures of Chicago's theatre scene.” Hamlet opens May 24th at the Athenaeum Theatre.

PET Managing Director Ann Keen adapts and directs a new music-driven production of Shakespeare's Hamlet in which even kings aspire to the lives of rock stars.

Hamlet

“I use music as a metaphor for power,” says director Ann Keen. “Music can be used as a tool of comfort and healing or one of destruction.”

Although Keen's adaptation of the Bard's famous tragedy is no musical, rock music performances enhance the characterizations. Keen's interpretation emanates from the modern rock-star culture. Hamlet himself is portrayed as a Kurt Cobain-like figure, struggling to cope with stardom and how it has betrayed his family.

Shakespeare has never rocked this hard!
