Long Day's Journey into Night Fate preoccupies us in tragedy and comedy. This season, we explore the topic from both sides. First we tackle the greatest American play yet written—Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night. O’Neill’s autobiographical masterpiece takes us into the dark night of the soul of the Tyrone family. Is it fate or the choices they make that leads to their tragedy? Distinguished guest artist Susan Padveen returns to direct. Polarity fans will remember her mind-bending work at the helm of Darren Callahan’s world premiere The White Airplane. This production is sure to join Absolute Macbeth, Hamlet and A Streetcar Named Desire in displaying Polarity’s gift for rejuvenating the classics. Ephemera Our Spring world premiere production is the ultimate existential comedy. Bryce Wissel’s Ephemera takes screwball humor into orbit as the crew of the space station Ephemera face an uncertain fate at the hands of an unseen foe. It’s The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy meets The Alamo. Ephemera first appeared in the 2008 Dionysos Cup and has continued its process of development with Polarity. Ensemble member Laura Sturm directs the world premiere, exercising again the knack for comedy she displayed in directing our production of The Rivals. The Dionysos Cup In May we present our annual Dionysos Cup Festival of New Plays. It’s been called the finest development series of its kind by the playwrights it has served. And it’s your chance to help shape the most exciting new plays of tomorrow! |
